Campus facilities
The Highland School Campus is made up of three buildings all facing each other and within easy walking distance. The outside campus area contains a play yard with swings, a small creek with a waterfall, the school garden, and a large sandbox. The entire campus is surrounded by 500 acres of forest and fields.
Original Building
The original building is over 100 years old. When the school opened in 1981, it was the only building on campus. It is a two story farmhouse. It currently houses the dining room, kitchen, library, school office, bathrooms, and storage room. In 1995, a local artist painted the beautiful mural on two sides of the building.
Activities Building
This building is the heart of activity on the school campus. It was built in 2003. It houses the multi-purpose room, music room, computer room, arts and crafts/science room, shop, and our brand new gymnasium/auditorium.
Dormitory
The dormitory is the newest building on the campus. It was built in 2008 and opened in the spring of 2009. All of the decisions from architectural design to paint color were decided by a committee of staff, students, and board members. It has four bedrooms roomy enough to house 2-3 students in each room. It has a large living area and kitchen. Staff and students living in the dorm have their own meetings to decide everything from rules to meal planning. The dorm has a large porch that looks over the other buildings on campus.
