A wide variety of children do well at Highland. Children from many different cultures, family structures, and geographical locations enrich our democratic community.
As long as a child is capable of understanding the way our school works, we are happy to welcome him or her to Highland. We treat school members as responsible partners in our daily life. We find that when children are expected to be responsible and are held accountable for their actions, they become responsible members of our community.
We are not concerned about a child’s past diagnoses (ADHD, ODD, etc.) as we will assess the “fit” during the visiting week and first month of school. Our experience is that without the pressure of conforming to a pre-formulated, standardized curriculum, most children quickly adjust to the freedom and responsibility at Highland.
