Choosing to send your child to Highland can be one of the most rewarding challenges faced by the family of a Highland student. The challenge is that sometimes it is difficult to explain why your child goes to an alternative private school. People will ask many questions of you and you may find yourself at a loss for words when trying to describe why it works. The rewarding part is when you see your child grow into a happy, responsible adult.
Being part of the Highland experience helps you find other families who think differently about their child’s education. You find support of others who believe in the rights of children. Many parents describe the school as being the most supportive, helpful, and open place their family has ever encountered. Parents express that they have a stress free home life when their children attend Highland. This is because their children enjoy going to school and take responsibility for their choices of how to spend their time. Also, the time currently spent fighting over homework can be spent more productively.
We have Friends of the School (FOTS) meetings twice a year. We also have Saturday school as part of our school calendar to give parents and siblings the opportunity to see what a school day looks like. We have parent potlucks and picnics several times throughout the year as well as Actors Guild performances that bring us all together socially. The Highland School Hotline (our school newsletter) is mailed to families regularly.
